Safety Harbor Art and music center:

What is SHAMc?
In the vibrant, creative cocoon of Safety Harbor, a group of artists is daring to imagine and build a dream of inspiration. The Safety Harbor Art and Music Center—lovingly known as SHAMc—seeks to bring together the surrounding community to share the arts in a beautiful place.

Whether through music, dance, paint, sculpture, written or spoken word, film or any other medium, SHAMc will offer dynamic performances, workshops and happenings for all to enjoy. The center will be a place to relax while you find inspiration, get involved and expose yourself to the arts in unexpected ways. Whatever you can dream, you will experience at SHAMc.

Our in-town center for artistic exploration began with an inspiring architect, Grant Genova, who is using recycled materials to renovate and add to a 1921 structure with unlimited possibilities. The architecture of SHAMc represents the outside-the-box thinking that we are encouraging our community to experience here at the center. Once completed, the building itself will be a dynamic work of art in the heart of Safety Harbor, with more than 2,300 square feet of space in which to experience the arts.

With the concept, the plans and the city of Safety Harbor all behind us, our next step was to raise the funds needed to build the SHAMc dream. In September 2011, SHAMc was awarded a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant, along with a $55,000 gift from an anonymous donor. Since acquiring the property, we have begun to transform it into our dream center-- a place where children and the children-at-heart can gather to celebrate art. Thanks to the grant, as well as the support of our community and people around the world, the construction of the 2-story music pavilion is underway.

SHAMc has already attracted musical performances from Jeff Daniels, Michelle Shocked and many other accomplished performers. Our creative playhouse will surely bring together a combination of established and new artists and performers to our dynamic community.

In a nutshell, the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center is a 501(c) non profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts. All donations are tax deductible and greatly contribute to the arts in our community and the surrounding areas. Though it has not yet opened to the public, we currently provide many opportunities for the community to get involved. Once it opens, SHAMc will encompass all facets of the arts: visual arts, performing arts, and musical arts, through education and experience in an organic environment. Our vision is to inspire extraordinary artistic thinking, creativity and performances that engage our community in unique ways.
